A simple yet highly effective Dungeon DPS build revolving around a focus attack during Elemental Force, with procs to boost your damage.

Lock, Stock & Barrel

By either replacing Scatter shot or Deadly aim or Breaching Shot (if someone else provides these buffs) you can use Lock, Stock & Barrel to increase your single target DPS.

12 Gauge

This passive applies debilitate to your target, if your group is having trouble with the damage output of a certain boss and neither your tank or healer is already providing the group with this amazing debuff you can do your team and wallet a favor by slotting this instead of Fortunate Strike.

The rotation is fairly simple:

The Business x5
Auxiliary weapon attack / The Business x1
Out for a Kill x1
Shootout x1 (Elemental Force)

It’s recommended to use a Crit Rating anima and Brutal augment on your builder if available.

This build is really fun; sick dps in dungeons. Too bad my 10.5.4 weapons have the wrong glyphs to make it really shine (cr on shotty, cp on pistols).

  • Pernicious

Wouldn’t Striker make for a better builder, given the recommendation of crit chance on Shotgun and crit power on pistol, due to one in the chamber and thunderstruck being in the deck ?

    • Vikestart

Not for a proc build. The Business has 3 chances of triggering each proc, while Striker only has 1 chance. You should have 1 minor talisman with Crit Rating on it though, and I also recommend using a Crit Rating anima potion.

  • KemosabeTBC

There’s nothing wrong in using this build in NYR btw

    • Vikestart

Right you are. :) I did update the Effectiveness info, but forgot about the description. I’ve fixed that now!

      • qwer qwer

i tried to recreate the build but with .5 glyphs its not possible unless you glyph both weapons for critrating yet you recommend critpower for pistol here

the closest i got (without weapon glyphs):
        pen 785
        hit 656
        critpower 296
critrating 195 <— i dont see how i can increase it without slotting both weapons critrating

have i overlooked something or is the recommendation to slot pistol with critpower was a mistake here?

        • Chester Rico

Putting crit rating on your pistols should be better in this build. More crits, more/better procs. Personally I didn’t reglyph my shotty and just kept crit rating on it too, since you only use it for Out for a Kill (and maybe Shotgun Turret.)
The 296 crit power (from Woodcutter’s, I assume) should be enough.
You can’t really get more without sacrificing penetration rating, which is more important since blocked hits are worse than slightly less hard hitting crits.

          • Chaosetor

It is not better. When building like this you will use a multi hit builder so you have a higher chance of critting anyway, granted it is not 3x the original chance, but it is still better. If anything, you should slot crit power on one minor and crit rating on another.

If you use the woodcutter, replace your crit power minor with penetration rating. though it varies slightly from set up to set up. In either case, using crit rating on your pistols will not help your DPS output in any setting (dungeons or raids) and therefore it should not be done. Do not let the fact that one in the chamber and thunderstruck are present in the build fool you.

Use a crit rating stimulant and a crit rating anima to boost your stats further, but even without an anima your DPS will be better with crit power on pistols if you use the build correctly simply because you EF shootout. It is a common misconception that simply because you do not have percentage passives in a build, consumers should be ignored and all focus should be on procs. This is not the case, any ACT will tell you that shootout still does considerable damage, and removing the additional crit power from this force critting consumer will damage your DPS significantly both in burn fights and in longer fights such as raids.

          • Chester Rico

            I stand corrected! Cheers.

        • Chaosetor

Keep in mind that this site uses the stats form both weapons. So the crit rating and power stats listed here do include crit power on your pistols and crit rating on your shotgun. Therefore, the rough stats you should have on talismans are: 650 hit, 900 pen and some crit rating on a minor. You can increase this to two minors when your pen and hit glyphs are in .5 if you glyphed correctly. This will enable you to choose between a) one minor talisman with crit power and one with crit rating or b) two minor talismans with crit rating and none with crit power assuming you are not using the woodcutter talisman.

This is one such setup. If you wish to use more crit rating, replace the crit power glyph on the waist talisman with a crit rating one. Do NOT use crit rating on yoru pistols.

Help please..Gearing…4/4 glyphs (2 maj hit, & 1 pen maj & min1, min cr 1min cr, weapons as suggested:cr shotty, cp pistols. I don’t understand how I am to get up to 300 cp when using shotty I’m short 109.

Wouldn’t Hair Trigger be better as a builder? Even with it’s 1 sec cast time, RPM is bigger than Buisness, IMO

    • Vikestart

The 1 sec cast time will effectively make it slower than The Business, so no, not really. Plus, since it’s slower, it takes longer for the Elemental Force counter to update and as such it can be a bit clumsy to use.

      • ArtificialMind

I know it’s quite late to respond but I want to make this clear: 1s cast time is NOT slower than The Business. No ability with 1s cast time is slower than instant ones, because nearly every ability triggers the 1s GCD (Global Cooldown), which runs in parallel to the cast time.

That means: Doing 10x The Business will take 10 seconds. Doing 10x Hair Trigger will take 10 seconds. Doing 10x Striker will also take 10 seconds. The only difference is when the resource is added and when the EF counter is increased and if you can use non-GCD skills (DABS, SoH, …) during the skill (you can for Business and Striker but NOT for Hair Trigger or Shootout).

Hair Trigger hits 4 times and has more crit/pen penalty but still outperforms The Business. It’s enough to be noticeable.

        • Chester Rico

Thanks for clearing that up Artie.

  • Berkay Enberker

u have some passive skills which are become active when you shoot to afflicted targets but i wonder 1 thing; how you apply afflicted effect with those passive skills.

    • Vikestart

This is a dungeon/raid build. In dungeons and raids, the tank is usually the one to apply Afflicted on the boss, thus you won’t need to do that.

      • Berkay Enberker

Hmm okay. if you want to play solo with this build, which skills needs to change with which ones? im new in game so im asking:) (sorry for bad English)

        • Vikestart

You wouldn’t. :P But if you insist, then I’d swap out Fortunate Strike for an afflict passive, such as Bloodsport.

Also, to make use of Thunderstruck, I’d swap Brawler with Breakdown (to apply exposed), and equip some extra health. But really, this build isn’t meant for soloing. :P

          • Berkay Enberker

breakdown is working with pistol+shotgun? i dont think so.

          • Vikestart

Ops, this is what I get for replying so late xD You can use Marked or something like that. Either that, or replace Thunderstruck with Gross Anatomy.

  • Stewart

This build is out of date since summer.

    1) Build with hair trigger instead of the business

4 hits instead of 3 is better for proc – this has always been true

    2) Livewire instead of thunderstruck

Better DPS after livewire changed. Also you can only get 1 livewire proc per activation, so consumers should always be 1s max.

    3) Third Degree instead of brawler

With EF no longer allowing forced, crit, brawler is poor choice

Third degree with a multi-hit builder is good dps…and now you don’t need tank to afflict.

    4) Start and Finish as conumer

    1s (better for livewire)

    5) Bring a vulnerability

Point blank is 1s, but does require 3m range (which is why I recommend raging bullet as consumer)

but any of the 4 are decent choices here – find one that works for you.

Bombardment is higher personal dps, but vulnerabilities are better team dps.
